The Ugaritic Alphabet (1500 BCE) provides the earliest evidence of Semitic orders of the alphabet, which gave rise to the alphabetic orders of various modern languages including Greek, Latin, and Arabic. The tablet was discovered in Ugarit (part of modern day Syria) in 1928.
